Project 52 – {22/52} Rescued

This week’s theme is “Rescued” and it is near and dear to my heart.

I have always been an advocate of rescuing animals and giving them loving home and new lease on life. As most of you know, last year I was finally able to bring a very special dog into my life through Texas Cattledog Rescue.

Below is the first picture of Oakley and me driving home on the day I rescued her just a little over a year ago.

She has been by my side every day since and both of our lives have been so blessed since then!

Project 52 {18/52} Digital Darkroom

Happy Friday  everyone!

This week’s theme is “Digital Darkroom” chosen by our own Melissa McCabe of Unleashed! Pet Portraits in Victoria, British Columbia.

One of the skills that is truly necessary as professional photographers is our ability to post-process images in creative, value-added ways. We can do most anything in the digital darkroom, from a simple recomposition, to cloning out leashes and other distractions, to adding texture overlays, to replacing body parts or whole subjects if need be.  The skills developed over time in the digital darkroom helps define each professional photographer’s signature look, and helps our precious subjects look their very best forever.  There are very few opportunities to really just go play in our digital darkroom, and yours truly took this chance to go to the “far side” and create a surrealistic fine art image for my office wall.

I titled this project “Oakley Dreaming”.

I got the idea as I was sitting out on the patio this past weekend, reading a book and Oakley was lying at my feet and she began to move like  she was dreaming. As I watched her for a few moments, I wondered what her dream was about and then put my own humanistic spin on it as I created this image.

Hope you like it as much as Oakley and I do!

Project 52 {16 / 52} From the ground up!

Happy Friday everyone!

Thanks again for stopping by to check me out on another edition of Project 52 :-)

This week’s topic is “From the Ground Up”.  As a pet photographer, we often find ourselves working at eye-level with our subjects to capture them from a unique perspective. Many times I have looked at images after a photo shoot and the ones taken from the ground seem to be the most engaging.

This past weekend I was up in Dallas TX, where I met Buffy, a very charming, warm and loving girl who was rescued from the side of the road by an elderly couple 4 years ago, and now is enjoying the love and companionship that all pets deserve.

So here she is, sweet as ever and looking like a little Ewok! Totally ADORABLE!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend and pleasee take some time to follow our blog ring some more and check out Chase & Snap Pet Photography in New Jersey, Stephanie Madeline for more fun on this great subject!

Project 52 {12/52} Retro

Well here we are for another installment of the Project 52.

This week it was my turn to choose the themes, and being a big fan of the Polaroid film medium, I chose the theme “Retro”.

Of course I didn’t want everyone just to make a Polaroid looking image so I gave these as guidelines;

Take your favorite image of the week and give it either a Retro film look (Polaroid or old 1960′s cross-processing) or Vintage (sepia or grainy B&W) feel.

(Maybe this also inspires you to put on your old prom dress or leisure suit, sport a mullet or Afro or perm…or have your pet wear the mullet or Afro)

So grab that great photograph this week and apply one of the many photo apps, Polaroid templates or the hoops and hoops of lightroom presets/photoshop actions out there to give your image an an aged (Retro/Vintage) look.

Well, I followed my own guidance and took one of my favorite images from a photo shoot I had this past weekend of a cute little Chihuahua mix named Mojito and gave it the 1960′s Polaroid look.

Hope you like it as much as I do!

Project 52 {9/52} Story

This week’s theme is for us to tell a story in pictures!

Immediately I knew what story I wanted to tell…Oakley and her chew bone.

As most of you know I adopted Oakley about a year ago. I knew she had a very rough/sad life before coming to live with me and one of the first things I did was to get some treats for her!  My vet recommended some chew-bones with a soft, yummy treat in the center. I knew that she would love them, eat them in a second, and then be back begging for more! On the contrary!

Whenever I give her a bone of any kind, she takes off with it in her mouth and searches every corner of the house and/or yard looking for the perfect spot to bury it! She wont eat them…she just buries them!

So this morning I got my camera ready with a wide lens and then got her a fresh chew bone from her stash of goodies.

The following series is what happens next….enjoy! (but don’t let Oakley know that YOU KNOW where she hid her bone!)
